Tinātoka marae is located at about 14 km north of Ruatōria on Te Araroa Road. Its principal hapū are Te Whānau a Te Uruahi and Te Whānau a Tinatoka of Ngāti Porou iwi.
The wharenui is called Te Poho o Tinātoka, the wharekai is Rangikapitiao. The marae connects ancestrally to Horouta waka, the maunga Hikurangi and the awa Waiapu and Mangaoporo.
