Matahī marae is located 44 km south of Ōpōtiki, in the Waimana Valley. Its primary hapū is Tamakaimoana of Ngāi Tūhoe.
The whare tipuna is named Te Huinga ō te Kura, built in 1925. Matahī connects ancestrally to the Mataatua waka, the maunga Maungapōhatu and the awa Tauranga.
