Poupatatē marae is located just outside Halcombe, about 40 km north of Palmerston North. Its primary hapū is Ngāti Pikiahuwaewae of Ngāti Raukawa ki Te Tonga.
The wharenui is also named Poupatatē. The marae connects ancestrally to the Tainui waka, the awa Rangitīkei and the maunga Maungatautari.
