Pōtaka marae is located at Pōtaka in Hicks Bay, on Te Araroa Road. Its principal hapū is Te Whānau a Tapaeururangi of Whānau a Apanui and Ngāti Porou iwi.
The whare is called Te Pae o Ngā Pakanga, and the wharekai is Te Ruatarehu. The marae connects ancestrally to the maunga Maungahiha, the lake Otupotehetehe and the awa Mangapurua and Oweka.
