Karuwai marae is located off Maraehara Road in Tikitiki. Its principal hapū is Te Whānau a Karuwai of the iwi Ngāti Porou.
The wharenui is called Te Rehu ā Karuwai and the wharekai is named Te Hiku a Mahiti. The marae connects ancestrally to the waka Horouta, the maunga Hikurangi and the awa Maraehara and Waiapu.
