Oparure marae, also known as Te Waipatoto, is located in 7 km north-west of Te Kūiti. The principal hapū associated with the marae is Ngāti Kinohaku.
The wharenui are Te Waipatoto and Waipatoto Tuarua and the wharekai is named Te Tuhi-o-te-ao-marama. Oparure connects ancestrally to the Tainui waka, the two maunga Pukehokio and Te Tuhi o Te Ao Marama, the awa Mangapu and the tribal collective of Ngāti Maniapoto.
