Hungahungatoroa (Whakahinga) marae is located in Matapihi, in the Tauranga region, and its principal hapū is Ngāi Tukairangi. Hungahungatoroa marae is part of the Ngāi Te Rangi tribal collective and of the Mataatua waka.
The marae consists of the wharenui, Tāpuiti, the wharekai, Whakahinga, and links ancestrally to the mountain of Mauao and the moana of Tauranga.
