Iwitea marae is located in Wairoa. Its principal hapū is Ngāi Tahu Matawhāiti of Ngāti Kahungunu iwi.
The wharenui is called Te Poho o Tahu. Iwitea connects ancestrally to the waka Takitimu, the awa Wairoa, and the moana Ōhuia, Te Paeroa, Wairau and Whakakī.
