Kaiwhaiki marae is located some 20 km from Whanganui, inland along the Whanganui River. Its principal hapū is Ngā Paerangi of the iwi Te Ātihaunui a Pāpārangi.
The wharenui are named Rongotepoi and Te Kiritahi. The marae connects ancestrally to the waka Aotea, the maunga Ruapehu and the awa Whanganui.
