Kutarere marae is located in Kutarere, about 18 km west of Ōpōtiki. Its principal hapū is Te Ūpokorehe of Whakatōhea iwi.
The wharenui is called Te Poho o Tamaterangi and the wharekai is Ani-i-waho. The marae connects ancestrally to Mātaatua and Nukutere waka, the maunga Tirotirowhitu and the awa Kutarere.
