Matahiwi marae (also known as Ohotu) is located in Matahiwi, on the banks of the Whanganui River. Its principal hapū is Ngāti Tānewai and Ngāti Aokehu of the iwi Ngāti Poutama Nui a Awa.
The wharenui is named Tānewai and the wharekai is Ohotu. The marae connects ancestrally to the waka Aotea, the maunga Ohotu and Hikurangi and the awa Whanganui.
