Maungaroa marae is located in Maungaroa, about 4 km east of Te Kaha on State Highway 35. Its principal hapū is Te Whānau a Kaiaio of Te Whānau a Apanui iwi.
The wharenui is called Kaiaio and the wharekai is Te Ikiwa o Rehua. The marae connects ancestrally to Mātaatua and Tauira-mai-tawhiti waka, the maunga Maungaroa and Whanokao, and the awa Kereu and Mouriuri.
