Mokoroa marae is located 21 km from Kawhia township, on the inner shores of the Kawhia Harbour. Its primary hapū is Ngati Kiriwai.

The whare tipuna is called Ngā Roimata. The marae connects ancestrally to the Tainui waka, the moana Kawhia and the maunga Hikuranga.
