Te Aroha marae is situated at Kai Iwi, a few km off State Highway 3. The primary hapū to affiliate with Te Aroha marae are Ngāti Iti, Ngāti Pūkeko and Tamareheroto of the iwi Ngā Rauru.
The wharenui are named Te Kotahitanga and Te Apinga. The marae connects ancestrally to the waka Aotea and the maunga Taranaki.
