Te Heapera marae (Mangarua) is located about 8 km northwest of Ruatōria township on Tapuaeroa Valley Road. Its principal hapū is Te Whānau a Hinetapora of Ngāti Porou iwi.
The wharenui is called Te Poho o Mangarua. The marae connects ancestrally to Horouta waka.
